Wednesday’s weigh-ins for Professional Fighters League 1 were on the dramatic side. For starters, heavyweight Shawn Jordan missed weight by 9 pounds, and you know you’ve screwed up when you can’t make the heavyweight limit. His fight with Philipe Lins has since been cancelled, and if we go by what PFL co-president Carlos Silva said, that means Lins earns 3 points in his regular season total via walkover.
The other craziness came from the scheduled heavyweight bout between Alex Nicholson and Kelvin Tiller. Nicholson weighed 214, and Tiller weighed 265.4. Fight is all set, right? Wrong. According to the New York State Athletic Commission, the weight difference exceeds their rules. For heavyweight bouts, one fighter cannot weigh heavier than his opponent by more than 25 pounds. I am not making this up. Go to pages 58 and 59 and you’ll see it for yourself. As a result, Nicholson is now fighting Jake Heun, while Tiller has been switched to Caio Alencar.
You can watch the ceremonial weigh-ins at the top of the page.
