The UFC’s women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes defeated Raquel Pennington by TKO in the fifth round of the UFC 224 main event. The opening round saw the champ take control of the fight right off the bat by dropping Pennington with the first leg kick she threw. Pennington spent the bulk of the opening round reacting to the offense of Nunes. The second round looked a bit similar to the first, with Nunes backing up her opponent, but Pennington did score a late takedown.

Pennington had a much better third round, scoring with her right hand more than she did in the previous rounds, but Nunes definitely landed the harder strikes. The fourth frame involved the champion taking over with a brutal knee attack. In between rounds, Pennington told her corner that she was done, but it appeared as if they encouraged her to keep going. The fifth round saw Nunes seal the deal after scoring a takedown and targeting the injured nose of Pennington.
