Conor McGregor has spoken.

UFC president Dana White confirmed Wednesday at a UFC 223 pre-fight press conference that McGregor will lose his lightweight title at the commencement of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Max Holloway on Saturday night. This was the first time White actually said McGregor would be stripped, despite initiating the idea months back.

The Irish superstar responded on Twitter early Thursday morning, implying he plans to put up a fight before giving up a second gold belt.

“You’s’ll strip me of nothing you’s do nothing c-nts,” McGregor wrote.

Of course, this is a very similar situation to when the UFC stripped “The Notorious” of his featherweight championship at the end of 2016, just a short while after winning the lightweight belt against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. McGregor said the UFC would not be able to take away his 145-pound title, but the promotion ultimately did.

McGregor hasn’t fought in MMA since his second-round TKO of Alvarez in November 2016. His last competition was his boxing debut in a massive fight against Floyd Mayweather last August. He fell via 10th-round TKO.

White said Wednesday McGregor will return to the UFC sometime this year.

During McGregor’s MMA hiatus, Tony Ferguson won the interim lightweight title last October. He was set to face Nurmagomedov for the undisputed championship Saturday in the pay-per-view main event, but last weekend it was announced he was out of the contest due to a knee injury. Current featherweight titleholder Holloway stepped up on six days’ notice and will look to become a two-division champion against “The Eagle.”

UFC 223 takes place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and also features a strawweight title rematch between champ Rose Namajunas and Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
