UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway was originally slated for his second title defense against former 155-pound champion Frankie Edgar. Nothing ever materialized, however, as the matchup was scrapped twice due to respective injuries on both men.
A fight against Edgar apparently still interests Holloway, as he feels that “The Answer” is still a dangerous opponent that could beat him.
“Me and Frankie still got unfinished business,” Holloway said in a recent MMAjunkie interview. “Everyone is talking about Frankie and Aldo like they’re two dead guys. They say, ‘Too washed up.’ They’re still animals. They’ve been at the top of the heap. They’ve been top-five, top-three in any division they were in, forever.
“People keep talking about how these guys are old; we’ll see. You can’t speak on it yet. It’s a couple losses. It’s MMA. You get caught.”
The 36-year-old Edgar picked up his first ever stoppage loss to Brian Ortega at UFC 222 early this month in Las Vegas, which earned the latter a shot at Holloway’s title.
Holloway vs. Ortega has yet to be scheduled, but the champion is targeting for it to take place at UFC 226 on July 7th in Las Vegas for International Fight Week.
