Gilbert Burns won’t be getting rebooked against Olivier Aubin-Mercier.
As Combate reported, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt will now take on Lando Vannata in April. The fight will be contested at lightweight.
Burns (13-2) was expected to take on Aubin-Mercier at UFC on FOX 28 this Saturday night, but was allegedly 31 lbs above the division’s weight limit during fight week, so the bout was scratched. Most recently, he knocked out Jason Saggo in September 2017, to bounce back from a unanimous decision loss to Michel Prazeres in September 2016.
With a draw against Bobby Green and a loss to David Teymur in his last couple of bouts, Lando Vannata (9-2-1) hasn’t seen a win since his wheel kick KO of John Makdessi in December 2016. In fact, that is Vannata’s sole UFC win, as he was choked out by Tony Ferguson in his Octagon debut.
UFC on FOX 29 is set for April 24th in Glendale, Arizona. The card will be headlined by a lightweight match between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.
