Since May of the past year, retired UFC Hall-of-Famer Chuck Liddell has been rumored to be preparing for an MMA comeback. In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, “The Iceman” did reveal that he has been keeping himself in shape, even as a contestant on the recent edition of Celebrity Big Brother.
“It’s still a possibility, for sure. So I didn’t want to get too far out of shape,” Liddell said. “I was in there boxing the whole time. There’s a lot of stuff that they didn’t show but I was just having a good time in there and staying in shape. I’m staying ready.”
Some of the names that have been attached to Liddell, as of late, are Chael Sonnen and Tito Ortiz. The former light heavyweight champion sees “The American Gangster” as a viable option, but is not counting on a third fight against Ortiz.
“I’ve said it before in the news, Chael would be a good warmup fight to get back into it,” Liddell said. “Tito would be great if he’d even consider fighting me. I hear he wouldn’t. He doesn’t want to fight me at all. He’ll fight other people but not me, of course.”
The 48-year-old Liddell (21-8, with 14 wins by stoppage), was on a three-fight skid before retiring in 2010. He last fought Rich Franklin at UFC 115 in June of that year, losing via first-round knockout. Liddell’s last win was his epic three-round war with Wanderlei Silva, winning by unanimous decision at UFC 79 in 2007.
