Tim Kennedy has made up his mind on who he is rooting for in the UFC 221 main event Saturday night.
The former UFC middleweight contender is siding with Luke Rockhold to beat Yoel Romero for the UFC interim 185-pound title in Perth, Australia — and Kennedy hopes to see the ex-champ stop “The Solider of God” in vicious fashion.
“Cheering for Luke Rockhold,” Kennedy wrote on Twitter. “Hope they have to carry Yoel Romero out on a stretcher and hope that the medics slip on the way out.”
Kennedy has history with both Rockhold and Romero. The 38-year-old lost to Rockhold via decision at a 2012 Strikeforce event; at the time, Rockhold was the promotion’s middleweight champ. More recently, Kennedy fell to Romero at UFC 178 in September 2014 via third-round TKO in controversial fashion. Romero sat on his stool longer than the one-minute break given to fighters between the second and third rounds.
UFC 221 takes place at Perth Arena and also features a heavyweight bout between Mark Hunt and Curtis Blaydes. On Friday, Romero missed weight by 2.8 pounds, so only Rockhold can win the interim title.
