On February 24, 2007, PRIDE FC made their 2nd trip to the United States for PRIDE 33: The Second Coming, with the main event witnessing Dan Henderson becoming a two-division champion by brutally knocking out Wanderlei Silva in their high stakes rematch. The co-main event saw Nick Diaz wage absolute war with Takanori Gomi, overcoming early adversity to score a 2nd round gogoplata submission. It should be noted that Diaz went on to fail a drug test for marijuana following the victory, and as a result, his win over Gomi was changed to a no contest.

The card also involved Mauricio Rua enjoying another 1st round knockout of Alistair Overeem, in the same ground- and-pound fashion as their 1st fight. Oh, this was also the last time we saw Overeem clock in at 205 pounds for a fight, before morphing into the Ubereem that racked up a few heavyweight world titles. There was only one decision on the evening, as 8 of the 9 bouts finished up inside of the distance, making PRIDE 33 one for the ages. This was PRIDE’s final show before selling to Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, the former co-owner’s of Zuffa and the UFC. Under new ownership, PRIDE would put on one more show back in Japan, PRIDE 34, but closed up shop for good right after. Even so, PRIDE never dies!
