Daniel Straus last stepped into the cage on back in October, where he faced Roufusport talent Emmanuel Sanchez on his way to a third round submission loss. Now, however, the former two-time Bellator featherweight champion is apparently battling for his life in a Florida hospital.
Bleacher Report broke the news on Thursday that Straus had been involved in a “near fatal” motorcycle accident on early Sunday morning. Straus is conscious and reportedly has movement of his limbs, although the full scope of his injuries is not yet known.
“On early Sunday morning, I was involved in a motorcycle accident,” Straus said, in a statement to Bleacher Report. “I’m currently recovering and will hopefully be returning to the Bellator cage sometime soon. I appreciate all the well wishes and ask that people respect my family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
Former opponent Patricio Freire reached out on Twitter to offer Straus his support following the reports of the accident.
Thoughts and prayers to @danielstraus who was injured in a terrible motorcycle accident. Best of luck with the recovery, I hope you can be fully healed.

Freire and Straus have faced off four times in their long careers. The most recent being a fight back in April of 2017, where Freire regained the belt Straus had taken from him in 2015.
Details of the accident or of Straus’ potential recovery time are unknown at the moment. Stay tuned to Bloody Elbow for more news and as updates.
