On May 31, 2008 Elite XC broadcasted the very 1st ever MMA event on network television in the United States on CBS, as Kimbo Slice fought James Thompson (and ‘the ear’) in the main event. The card’s co-main saw Robbie Lawler in an epic middleweight title fight with Scott Smith, that was unfortunately called off prematurely due to an inadvertent eye poke, but the bout was still one for the ages none the less. Also on the main card, MMA pioneer Gina Carano earned a 2nd round TKO of Kaitlin Young, Joey Villasenor TKO’d Phil Baroni in the 1st, and Brett Rogers knocked out Jon Murphy in 61 seconds. Join Bloody Elbow’s own Fraser Coffeen and Eddie Mercado as we take a look back at this historic event!
