For the first time since 2010, the UFC are back in Detroit, MI. And they’ve brought a stacked card with them; headlined with a match-up of two men who will be remembered as two of the UFC’s greatest ever featherweight fighters.
The headline is a rematch between current 145lb champion Max Holloway and former featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo (who stepped in after Frankie Edgar got injured). The first time Holloway and Aldo squared off was in Rio de Janeiro in June. The fight went back and forth before the Hawaiian finished Aldo via TKO late in round 3. Will Aldo get revenge this time around or does ‘Blessed’ reign supreme?
The remainder of the PPV card’s fights all have potential title implications. The co-main may very well determine the next UFC heavyweight title contender as Alistair Overeem looks to halt the advance of Francis Ngannou. Before them, Henry Cejudo and Sergio Pettis do battle to see which flyweight will get the next shot at champion Demetrious Johnson. Rounding out the card former lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez takes on the surging Justin Gaethje, and top women’s strawweights Tecia Torres and Michelle Waterson go at it.
The star-value drops off on the FS1 prelim card, but there are still intriguing match-ups that could deliver exciting action. The headlining prelim is a lightweight duel between Charles Oliveira and Paul Felder. Before them welterweights Alex Oliveira and Yancy Medeiros meet. Also on the card is a lightweight clash between David Teymur and Drakkar Klose, and a strawweight fight between Felice Herrig and Cortney Casey.
The UFC Fight Pass early prelims offer four fights this evening. They include Amanda Cooper vs. Angela Magana (strawweight), Sabah Homasi vs. Abdul Razak Alhassan (welterweight), Jeremy Kimball vs. Dominick Reyes (light heavyweight), and Justin Willis vs. Allen Crowder (heavyweight).
