It doesn’t look like Georges St-Pierre will be fighting anytime soon.
The UFC middleweight champion confirmed he had a colonoscopy and was diagnosed with colitis after returning home from vacation in a statement on his Facebook page Saturday. UFC president Dana White said the same thing one night before at The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale in Las Vegas.
“I now understand the health issues that I had during my last training camp,” St-Pierre wrote. “I hoped my condition would improve after the fight but unfortunately it got worse and I had to go straight to the hospital for a colonoscopy when I came back from vacation last Wednesday. The diagnosis is ulcerative colitis and I am now taking medication that will hopefully appease the symptoms.
“My health is my #1 priority right now, I’m still a very happy man, thanks for your support!!!”

According to MedicineNet.com, colitis “refers to inflammation of the inner lining of the colon.” Its symptoms include abdominal pain, cramping, and diarrhea. Improving your diet will help reduce “flares” and aforementioned symptoms, but there is not a cure for colitis.
Most recently, St-Pierre returned from a four-year layoff up one weight class. He defeated Michael Bisping in the UFC 217 main event to capture the UFC 185-pound title, becoming only the fourth fighter in the promotion’s history to hold belts in two divisions. St-Pierre vs. Bisping headlined the UFC’s second event at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Nov. 4.
White and co. want St-Pierre to defend the newly captured middleweight title against interim champ Robert Whittaker, but after the Bisping win, St-Pierre was noncommittal to his next move in the cage.
St-Pierre was hospitalized after UFC 217 for a neck injury.
