Donald Cerrone: ‘I’m going back to 155,’ and I won’t take 20 fights a year anymore

Donald Cerrone’s welterweight run looked promising for a while when he put on a four-fight stoppage win streak since he made his debut in the division early last year. But it was followed by a string of three losses, with the most recent one by first-round TKO against young up-and-comer Darren Till in Poland in late October.

Now 34 years of age, “Cowboy” has begun to take a good look at his career. During a recent appearance on “The Fighter and the Kid” podcast, he revealed that not only does he plan to slow his career down, but he also intends to move back down to his original weight class.

“I’m there, five (more) years,” Cerrone told hosts Bryan Callen and Brendan Schaub. “I’m going back to 155.”

“I’m only 175 (pounds), I’ve been waking up at 175 everyday, so I’m fine. I’m more focused. At 170, I can just not train and f—k off. I put more into it at 155 so, let’s do it. Let’s go back, have a couple more fights.”

“I won’t take 20 (fights) a year anymore,” Cerrone added. “I’ll probably take it down a little bit.”

Apart from his fighting career, Cerrone has also been busy filming six episodes of “Godless”, a Netflix mini-series which made its debut in late November.
