Jose Aldo seemingly had troubles making weight Friday ahead of UFC 218, initially weighing 146 pounds with shorts on and subsequently being forced to use the towel. He also appeared to be in pain while stepping onto the scale. But according to the greatest featherweight of all time, none of that is true.
He just wanted to play around.
When TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter asked Aldo whether he was concerned before weighing in about possibly not hitting the 145-pound mark, the Brazilian gave a rather bizarre answer.
“I knew I was in the right weight,” Aldo said through an interpreter. “But I like to play that, just to f—k the gravedigger’s ass.”
Bronsteter was confused by Aldo’s answer, so asked the interpreter for clarification. Unfortunately, he didn’t really get any.
“He likes to pretend he’s dead,” the interpreter said, “just to f—k the gravediggers straight up in the ass.”
I have no idea what Aldo meant by that latter part, but he ended up making weight and is good to go for his featherweight title fight against Max Holloway. Thankfully, we can focus on that and not his above explanation.
Aldo, who lost the belt to Holloway via third-round TKO at UFC 212 in June, meets “Blessed” in the UFC 218 main event Saturday night. The event takes place at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
