It happened. Jon Jones, the (basically) undefeated former UFC champion, and the man we once thought was not only a lock to win this tournament, but maybe even the overall greatest of all time, has been defeated. Shogun Rua gained his revenge on Jones, taking him out by a score of 53-47. Pride something something.
Today, we have arrived. The end of the line. Who is the greatest Light Heavyweight of all time? We find out… right now.
In one corner, #1 seed Chuck Liddell. The former UFC Light Heavyweight champion has had a great tournament run full of redemption (over Keith Jardine and Rashad Evans), a huge win over Dan Henderson, and successfully repping the UFC in his victory over Wanderlei Silva.
His opponent, fellow #1 seed Mauricio Rua, the former UFC Light Heavyweight champ and Pride GP champ. Shogun rolled through the competition for the most part, dominating Vladimir Matyushenko, Forrest Griffin, and Rampage. Then he dug deep and took out overall top seed Jones.
Now, one becomes the GOAT.
