UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson might not have the star power of Georges St-Pierre, but ‘Rush’ believes ‘Mighty Mouse’ has joined the ranks as one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Johnson, who broke Anderson Silva’s record for the most consecutive title defenses at UFC 216 (11), submitting Ray Borg with a spectacular flying armbar, is officially ranked as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and GSP thinks it’s a position well-earned.

Speaking to the media at a recent press conference in Toronto, St-Pierre hailed Johnson as the best fighter of our era.

“He’s the best fighter of our era right now,” St-Pierre said, per MMA Fighting’s Alexander K. Lee. “I believe he’s the best pound-for-pound right now. Every era has great fighters, some guys were the best at their time and you never fight the same fighter twice because a lot of things make people change. But right now as we’re speaking, the best pound-for-pound is Demetrious Johnson, no doubt.”

Johnson, who trains out of Parkland, Washington, has virtually cleaned out the flyweight division and has flirted with the idea of moving up the bantamweight division for the right offer.

St-Pierre, 36, is considered the best welterweight champion of all time and returns to the sport after a four-year layoff to challenge Michael Bisping for the middleweight title at UFC 217.

The highly anticipated pay-per-view takes place later tonight, Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden, New York.
