In the second of four quarterfinal matchups at the World Boxing Super Series 168-pound tournament, England’s Chris Eubank Jr. (26-0, 20 KOs) turned in a scintillating performance against Turkey’s Avni Yildirim (16-1, 10 KOs) in front of a pro-Yildirim crowd in Stuttgart, Germany. The favored Eubank put Yildirim down on an uppercut in round 1, Yildirim did well to fight back in round 2, and then the two combatants swung for the fences early in round 3. Ultimately, the speed, explosiveness, and accuracy of Eubank’s punches were far too much for Yildirim to handle. With a series of big shots getting through Yildirim’s faltering defensive guard, a vicious left hook by Eubank put Yildirim down and out, with the referee not even bothering to issue a count.
