Saturday night is a big showdown in boxing’s Middleweight division, as the two top fighters and top belt holders finally square off to determine divisional dominance. Here’s a look at the latest odds for Canelo vs. GGG, courtesy of OddsShark:
Gennady Golovkin -160
Canelo Alvarez +140
In the world of boxing mega-fights, where there’s almost always a clear-cut favorite, these odds are about as close to even as you’re going to get. Golovkin is the undefeated KO artist, plus he’s the bigger man, so it’s not a surprise that he’s the slight favorite. But the timing of the fight has brought more fans towards Canelo.
When this fight first started being discussed back in early 2015, odds opened on GGG at -350. Golovkin had closed to -165 when the fight was officially announced in May, and odds have stayed mainly steady since.
In terms of prop bets, the biggest money to be made is on a Canelo KO win at +600. No shock there as this is the least likely outcome in an otherwise tough to pick fight. Fans looking to pick GGG can sweeten their odds by choosing the method: +160 for KO, +275 for decision, and +530 for a unanimous decision. It’s a close fight, but there are decent odds available pretty much no matter how you see it going, so if you have a real conviction on how this will play out, there are best to be made here.
Also on Saturday, boxing’s “other” Middleweight title holder Billy Joe Saunders sees action. His odds are not quite as close, but still not bad:
Billy Joe Saunders -270
Willie Monroe, Jr. +230
Probably not as much action there, as Saunders is the likely winner, but Monroe has enough of a chance to make this not a worthwhile favorite bet at these odds.
