Top 10 lightweight contender Kevin Lee, who is gearing up to face the No. 2 ranked Tony Ferguson in an interim title bout at UFC 216, has brought in one of the best wrestlers in the game ahead of his big night on Oct. 7.
Lee, a former wrestler at Grand Valley State University, has been putting in the rounds with former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, who is known for his impeccable take downs and ground control.
‘The Motown Phenom’ posted a picture on Instagram, confident in his ability to pull off the upset against against ‘El Cucuy’ and win his first UFC title.
“2 hours of wrestling. 2 legends. 2 months. 2 gold straps. All of a sudden you the one they look up 2.”
Lee, a winner of five straight, last fought at UFC Fight Night 112 where he beat Michael Chiesa via rear-naked choke. The fight wasn’t without its controversy, as referee Mario Yamasaki ended the fight before Chiesa tapped, but Lee still walked away with the win and picked up his third straight rear-naked choke submission. The 25-year-old is 16-2 and has only lost to Leonardo Santos and Al Iaquinta.
St-Pierre, 36, came out of retirement earlier this year and is preparing to challenge Michael Bisping for the middleweight title. ‘Rush’ will take on ‘The Count’ at UFC 217 on November 4.
UFC 216, which features a headlining championship bout between Ferguson and Lee, takes place next month, October 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
