While the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor is cruising towards a possible Nevada gate record, the next major boxing fight is looking like it will be pretty lucrative as well. Canelo Alvarez and Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin will meet in the same venue as McGregor and Mayweather competed in, the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas on September 16th. Despite claims from Mayweather promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, it is apparently sold out, according to a tweet from Lance Pugmire of the LA Times:

The official sellout was announced by Golden Boy and K-2 Promotions back in July, but apparently Ellerbe doesn’t believe them. The interesting part of that statement is the claim of a 30 million dollar gate. Other than Mayweather’s fights against Manny Pacquiao in 2015 (72.2 million), and the bout against McGregor last weekend (expected to come close to or surpass the MayPac numbers), 30 million would come in comfortably as the third-best Nevada boxing gate ever. In fact, it’s 10 million more than the fight currently in third place – Mayweather vs. Canelo in 2013.

For the sake of comparison, the UFC has only done two gates over 10 million in Nevada – UFC 200 (10.75 million), and UFC 194 (10 million). McGregor headlined against Jose Aldo in the latter.
