On Thursday, retired boxer Paulie Malignaggi joked with Floyd Mayweather Jr. about being sent in as a spy to Conor McGregor’s training camp at the UFC performance institute in Las Vegas.

Maliganggi, a former two-weight world champion, left McGregor’s camp on bad terms after pictures surfaced of ‘Magic Man’ knocked to the canvas in a sparring session.

Last week, however, the Showtime Sports broadcaster called McGregor and his fans ‘suckers’ for buying into the drama, hinting that he trolled ‘The Notorious’ in sparring.

Mayweather, 49-0, flat out told the media that he sent Malignaggi as a spy.

“Oh don’t worry. Me and Paulie are gonna stay at the house and talk about strategy, we’re gonna talk about everything,” Mayweather said. “Don’t you worry. Paulie, thank you for going over there like I asked you to do. And he made it look good when he grabbed you and threw you down. That was a good one. That was a good one.

“Good work! We got him.”

Speaking in a recent interview with ESNEWS, Malignaggi didn’t deny that he infiltrated McGregor’s camp but hinted that it was nothing more than a joke with his ‘boy’ Mayweather.

“Listen, I’m gonna see my boy before his last fight,” Malignaggi said. “I was just going to see my boy. I went over there and said ‘whats up?’ We caught up. A lot of times I’m in Vegas he’s not even in town.

“If I know I’m gonna get to see him for a second, especially for his last fight – this is sort of a farewell for him – of course I’m gonna go check him out.”

Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub, who will feature as an analyst for Showtime alongside Malignaggi, told ESNEWS that his friend is not a ‘snitch’.

“Paulie did not go into this going ‘oh, I’m gonna find out what Conor’s doing, snitch on him for Floyd Mayweather.’ That’s not how this even started.

“It’s all good man. It’s not like that.”

The May-Mac boxing extravaganza takes place later tonight, August 26, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
