When odds first opened for Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor, Mayweather was favored at something like -2250. When the odds came all the way down to -850 around March, I said these were ridiculously close odds and you should go ahead and place a Mayweather bet, even at such a gap. I was wrong. Those were not ridiculous odds – THESE are ridiculous odds:
Floyd Mayweather -400
Conor McGregor +300
Yes, you can now get Mayweather at -400. That’s closer than Mayweather’s second fight with Marcos Maidana, where Floyd closed at -600, meaning fans think the 0-0 McGregor has a better chance against Mayweather than a guy who literally fought Mayweather to a draw on one scorecard.
As I’ve said throughout this promotion, Mayweather is a great bet here. Conor has very little chance of victory, though both men have obviously done a good job convincing plenty of bettors that he does. This is a great fight to take advantage of those folks and get your bets in on Mayweather now.
Two questions to consider though: First, will odds draw tighter before Saturday night? It seems likely, so perhaps waiting a bit more is a wise move, though you also run the risk of the Mayweather bettors all coming in late to bring him back up. Question #2: How will Mayweather finish the fight? In case that -400 is not enough for you, there are some great prop bets you can get if you want to predict Floyd’s method of victory:
Odds of Mayweather winning by decision: +250
Odds of Mayweather winning by KO: -125
Honestly, I have a tougher time with this one. My gut instinct is that it goes the distance, but I don’t feel as confident there. But boy, that Mayweather decision bet is tempting.
For those of you looking to embrace the lunacy of the night, you can also bet on if Conor will throw a kick (+650 Yes, -1800 No), who will have a larger entourage (Mayweather is the slight favorite), if Nate Diaz will walk out with Floyd (close to even odds, though “No” is favored at -160), and all manner of questions about how Justin Bieber will be featured.
It’s a spectacle folks. Get ready for the circus.
