A potential superfight between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar picked up steam on Monday after Lesnar’s appearance on WWE RAW.

Lesnar’s manager, Paul Heyman, hinted that the WWE Universal champion could return to the ‘cage’ after SummerSlam.

“One of two things happens this Sunday at SummerSlam,” Heyman said yesterday (h/t Jesse Holland of MMA Mania). “One, the conspiracy by WWE General Manager Kurt Angle is successful and they rip the Universal title off of my client Brock Lesnar. Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman leave the WWE. And if that is the case I assure you that you might as well lock this beast up in a cage!”

(Interestingly, WWE edited out Heyman’s comments about a cage on their official YouTube channel. The unedited version can be seen below).

A ‘cage’, of course, could mean that Lesnar’s UFC return is inbound or WWE are planning to book a Hell in a Cell match.

Lesnar vs. Jones gained traction after ‘Bones’ called out the WWE superstar at UFC 214. Jones, 30, knocked out Daniel Cormier in the main event to reclaim the light heavyweight title and called out ‘The Beast Incarnate’ in the post-fight interview.

Lesnar is currently serving a one-year MMA suspension after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs at UFC 200, and is gearing up for a Fatal 4-Way match at WWE SummerSlam.

SummerSlam takes place this weekend, August 20, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
