“Historic” this, “the year’s most anticipated spectacle” that, you’ve heard the hyperbole from those involved in the promotion of Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor delivered with gusto and aplomb. Not that you needed much convincing that this fight is a must see It is compelling viewing, unmissable by the very virtue of the many conundrums it throws up and as a fight fan, regardless of where you are in the interest spectrum, it’s highly likely that you will watch this in some way shape or form.
Perhaps it’s time to hear a completely different set of narratives from those in the know. Those who officiate, commentate on combat sports and fight. Some well known, some are not, but all are given a voice in this WHOA TV video as “he who feels it knows it.” Some of those featured have a direct link to either Conor McGregor or Floyd Mayweather in some way, shape, or form. Others are a little more tenuous by their connection.
Among others the video includes perspectives from Herb Dean, one of MMA’s most respected referees, who has been up close to one half of the protagonists, stepped in to save his opponents and by that very virtue has a real birds eye view of what Conor McGregor is capable of. He is the only UFC official to have acted as the third man in the cage more times than any referee in McGregor’s 21-3-0 fight history.
Also featured is Frank Mir who, like Conor McGregor, not only has tasted UFC gold but is also taking the reins of his future and steering his earning potential in a direction that suits him. Mir’s perspective, given his analytical approach as both a commentator, podcaster, and fighter is particularly interesting as he is able to give his critique with all three aspects of his experience molded into one outlook.
Paul Daley a KO specialist and renowned for his trash talk is also one of the most resolute in his summation of what will happen. Given his background and specialty, Daley’s prognosis is somewhat sobering and at the same time insightful given the many rounds of sparring he has undertaken with professional boxers.
