Donavon Frelow wasn’t victorious at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series and wasn’t signed by the UFC, but he still walked away a winner.
After a split-decision defeat to Ricky Simon earlier this week, Frelow got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend to the cheers and claps of his team and family. But here’s where it gets gross: instead of one of his cornerman handing him the ring just before everything went down, Frelow chose to fight with the ring in his groin protector (maybe to keep it safe?). While sharing a moment with his supporters, he managed to retrieve the ring from his cup with few noticing. There may have been better options out there, but all the power to him, because his girlfriend said yes.

Previously in the evening, Frelow and Simon put on a show, and the wide conception is that if performance bonuses were handed out at the Tuesday cards, the bantamweights would have picked up “Fight of the Night” honors. The striking was close over 15 minutes, but Frelow struggled to defend Simon’s takedowns, which was the main reason he came up short.
The fight took place at The Ultimate Fighter Gym in Las Vegas. It was part of Week 5 of the series, which kicked off in July.
Frelow, the older brother of UFC light heavyweight Khalil Rountree Jr., is 6-3 as a pro mixed martial artist. Now riding a two-fight skid, the WSOF veteran’s last victory was a split decision over Zeke Enrique in February.
