NBA defensive standout and two-time champion Draymond Green got into it with UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor on Instagram. It all started with Green, who plays for the Golden State Warriors, taking exception to McGregor wearing a #23 Warriors jersey.
Green’s jersey number is 23, but that’s not the name on the back of McGregor’s jersey. Here’s the ensuing response from the UFC lightweight champion.

In case you can’t see the tweet, the two quotes from McGregor were as follows:
“That’s C.J Watson mate. I don’t know who the f–k you are. No disrespect tho kid, keep hustling and stay in school.”
“Now ask yourself why I’m rocking C.J. when I don’t know or give a f–k about basketball. I dribble heads off the floor. Not a ball. This is no game here kid.”
Green’s retort to “I don’t know who the f—k you are” was to list all of his accomplishments as a basketball player, along with taking a shot at McGregor losing to Nate Diaz at UFC 196:
“hahahahaha that number won’t be worn again when I’m finished with it clown! Gold medalist, NBA champ, all star, DPOY etc!!! Hahahaha stop it boy! Nate Diaz(Bay Area stand up) whooped you in your ring! Money May”
There is a much deeper backstory to McGregor’s referencing of C.J. Watson, who did play for the Warriors from 2008-2010. Watson was reportedly in a relationship with Josie Harris, the mother of Mayweather’s three children. In 2011, Floyd was sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to a reduced battery domestic violence charge, as well as no contest to two harassment charges for his horrific beating of Harris.
An excerpt from USA Today:
Harris says she awoke with Mayweather screaming and grabbing her hair. She says he’d read affectionate text messages between her and NBA basketball player C.J. Watson, described in her book draft as her “summer love.” Watson now plays for the Indiana Pacers. Efforts to reach him through the team were unsuccessful.
As far as McGregor bringing up Watson, this is definitely not the first time he’s done so this year.
