Floyd Mayweather has been on top of boxing for well over a decade, cashing checks that other fighters (and athletes) can only dream of. Since he bought himself out of his Top Rank contract in 2006 and decided to promote himself, he has consistently lived up to his “Money” nickname. He topped Forbes’ “World’s Highest Paid Athletes” list three times in the last six years – 2012 (85 million), 2014 (105 million), and 2015 (300 million).
So it should come as no surprise that he will pass the billion dollar mark in career earnings with his paycheck from the huge fight with UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor on August 26th.
“I don’t think he’s doing too bad. I think with this fight deal he’ll be one of three athletes, along with Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, to go over a billion dollars . I don’t think he’s doing too bad.”
It’s unclear if Mayweather will be able to clear the 250 million or so he made from fighting Manny Pacquiao in 2015, but if the attention the two men received from their world press tour is any indication, it’s a distinct possibility. For his part, McGregor is expected to make approximately 100 million for the fight himself.
Mayweather and McGregor will meet in a 12-round, 154-pound boxing match on August 26th in Las Vegas.
