Road FC 40 played host to the opening round of their $1 million lightweight tournament. The event, which had a mix of upsets and impressive finishes, saw 8 fighters advance to the quarter finals of the lucrative event.
Tournament front runners in Ronys Torres, Shamil Zavurov and Mansour Barnaoui all won their contests, while other favorites such as “Toninho Furia” Gleristone Santos and Yui Chul Nam faltered on first round TKO losses. The latter in Nam lost in just 7 seconds to Tom Santos. UFC veterans Leo Kuntz and Riki Fukuda also took home losses from the event.
An openweight championship bout was also on the line up, and it saw multiple time K-1 grand prix winner Mighty Mo pick up his 6th straight victory in Road FC.

After the event, a blind draw determined the quarterfinal match ups, which can be seen below. The continuation of the tournament is said to happen this October.
