Day One of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor four-city press tour kicked off in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Generally, it has so far been at par with everyone’s expectations, in terms of the level of trash-talking between the two brash fighters.
From his end, McGregor admitted that he was caught off-guard a bit by how boxing press conferences were done. But what seemingly got to him more was his mic being supposedly turned off when he threw out some taunts during Mayweather’s turn on the podium.
The Irishman believes it was purposely done by Showtime executives to put him in a tough spot in front of a large crowd. During Day Two of the presser on Wednesday in Toronto, “The Notorious” addressed the situation.
“Yeah, they took the mic off,” McGregor told the crowd in attendance. “Look, f–k them. F–k Showtime. F–k them all. They can do nothing after Aug. 26. They can try and do all these tricks all they want.”
Showtime Sports vice president Stephen Espinoza, however, went on to deny McGregor’s allegations, in an official company statement the company released on Wednesday (via MMA Fighting).
“At no point did Showtime or event productions cut any microphones intentionally during Tuesday’s kickoff event in Los Angeles. The point of this world tour is to let these superstars interact with the fans and with each other. Cutting their mics would go against our goal of delivering these fighters to the masses and letting their charismatic and entertaining personalities take center stage.”
Day Three of the Mayweather vs. McGregor world press tour will be held on Thursday, July 13th in Brooklyn, New York.
