With today’s unfortunate news that Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko has been called off, a glimmering ray of hope shone through the clouds when UFC president Dana White took to his Instagram to confirm that Nunes was out and to say that strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk was “begging us to let her fight” Shevchenko:
Jedrzejczyk confirmed White’s claim with a post of her own:
“I spoke with Dana White and the UFC – we are going to try and make this fight happen!”

From there, Shevchenko was all in, sharing the post, exclaiming “Let’s do this today!”

“Joanna said she is ready to fight today. I am ready now 100%! Let’s do it for the title belt in 125 lbs. Today!”

One can’t help but hope this fight happens. After last night’s main event, we’re all on a fight high that no one wants to come down from. Hopefully, the MMA gods will grace us tonight with what can only be an epic contest.
