Al Iaquinta’s extended layoff from fighting has mostly been about his grievances with the UFC. Although the ranked lightweight returned on Saturday night with a quick and impressive knockout over Diego Sanchez, his issues with the promotion seem far from over.
Moments after the victory, Aljamain Sterling tried to hand over and let him wear his Reebok jersey. Iaquinta took it, blew his nose, then returned it to his teammate.
“UFC, I love you guys, but the sooner you realize I’m the man, the better off we’ll be,” Iaquinta said on his post-fight interview.
Things didn’t end there. Shortly after the UFC announced that his swift and brutal win over Sanchez wasn’t getting a $50,000 performance bonus, Iaquinta started raging on social media.

Iaquinta is currently in a 5-fight winning streak dating back to 2014, and is still ranked within the top 15. It took the 29-year-old two years to return to competition, and although he came out of this fight without taking damage, I’m not quite sure we’ll see him inside the cage soon.
