There’s apparently been a late change to the UFC 210 main event between Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson. It was widely believed that Cormier was defending his UFC light heavyweight title on April 8th, but as was observed at Wednesday’s media day session, there’s no need for either man to cut down to 205 lbs.

It turns out the heavyweight belt is on the line, which must be news to Stipe Miocic. Does this mean Miocic vs. Junior dos Santos at UFC 211 is actually a #1 contender’s matchup, or are they fighting at light heavyweight in a surprise twist?

It’s easy for the UFC to make this mistake. Not only was Cormier one of the world’s best heavyweights prior to dropping to 205 lbs, Johnson has a heavyweight win over Andrei Arlovski in World Series of Fighting. I reckon that if both men moved up to heavyweight, they’d be top-5 in the division. Also, there’s evidence from fifteen months ago that the real light heavyweight champion is actually the great Ilir Latifi.

(H/T to Amy Kaplan for the initial observation)
