The highly anticipated interim title bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson was cancelled following a disastrous weight cut for the Dagestani contender. Khabib was rushed to the hospital, and the UFC 209 bout had to be called off shortly after.

According to Dana White, if his team didn’t go “rogue” and they contacted them first, maybe the bout could have been slavaged.

“Basically, his team had decided to take him to just some random hospital here in Las Vegas instead of picking up the phone and calling our doctor and calling Brianna [Mattison], who runs all the medicals,” White said during UFC 209’s weigh-in show (transcribed by MMA Mania).

“They went rogue and went out and did their own thing,” he said. “Had they done this thing the right way, the fight probably could have been saved.”

The UFC president also mentioned that Khabib was 6 lbs outside the lightweight limit when the incident happened.
