Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson is officially off. The co-main event at Saturday night’s UFC 209 appeared to be in jeopardy earlier today when reports surfaced that Nurmagomedov had been hospitalized. The fight has now been officially cancelled, with the UFC just releasing the following statement:

UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov was transported to Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center Thursday evening due to weight management medical issues. He was treated and has been discharged, UFC officials confirmed.

The scheduled interim lightweight championship bout between Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 has been cancelled on the doctor’s recommendation.

As stated, Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson was to be for the UFC Interim Lighweight title, and was scheduled as the UFC 209 co-main event. No word yet on what fight will be bumped from the prelims to the main card to replace this.

This is the third time this fight has been scheduled and subsequently called off. Once was due to a Khabib rib injury in December 2015, and that was followed by Ferguson pulling out in April due to lung issues.

Stay tuned for more updates on what this cancellation means for UFC 209, plus more details on Nurmagomedov’s situation as they become available.

UFC 209 is scheduled for this Saturday, March 4 and is headlined by Tyron Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson 2 for the UFC Welterweight title. We will have full coverage of the event here at Bloody Elbow.
