For only the fourth time in its history the UFC is in the state of New York. This time the show comes live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and features the introduction of a brand new weight class and championship belt.
In the main event of the pay-per-view card former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm will take on multiple time world Muay Thai champion Germaine de Randamie. The bout will decide the first ever UFC women’s featherweight champion. Though the specter of Cris Cyborg has long hung over this division, even when it was just a thought experiment, it is Holm or de Randamie who will be given the opportunity to reign over the new weight class. Expect a back and forth stand up war to settle it.
Supporting those ladies is an under the radar, albeit excellent, pay-per-view card, which gets going at 10pm ET. The co-main event features the legendary Anderson Silva up against top ranked Derek Brunson in the middleweight division. Before that there’s another middleweight match-up (one with immediate title ramifications) between Ronaldo Souza and Tim Boetsch. The remainder of the PPV sees light heavyweights Glover Teixeira and Jared Cannonier and lightweights Dustin Poirier and Jim Miller square off.
The FS1 prelims, which begin at 8pm ET, is topped by a welterweight duel between Randy Brown and Belal Muhammad. Filling out the prelim card is Wilson Reis versus Ulka Sasaki at flyweight, Nik Lentz versus Islam Makhachev at lightweight, and and a featherweight tilt between Rick Glenn and Phillipe Nover
The Fight Pass early prelims start at 7:30pm ET. This portion of the event will just feature a welterweight clash between Ryan LaFlare and Roan Carneiro after a heavyweight bout between Marcin Tybura and Justin Willis was canceled, after Willis was not medically cleared to compete.
