The CEO of Golden Boy Promotions has found himself in some hot water. Oscar De La Hoya, who parlayed his successful boxing career into a job as one of the top promoters in the world, was arrested for DUI last night in Pasadena, CA, according to TMZ.
It appears that De La Hoya had been making his way around some bars in the city, and was pulled over by police around 2am for speeding. According to the report, he failed multiple field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was then cited and released to his manager.
De La Hoya himself hasn’t issued a statement regarding the incident as of yet.
The 43-year-old has dealt with drug and alcohol issues on and off for over a decade, and has been to rehab before. It is unclear if this will have any effect on his promotional career, but Golden Boy did just sign a big deal with ESPN to bring a bunch of events to the network. So this wasn’t exactly great timing.
