Celine Haga walked away the losing fighter at Invicta FC 21, yet she put her opponent to sleep just before the final buzzer sounded.

Haga faced Amy Montenegro in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday night and had a rear-naked choke sunk in at the very end of the third round. Referee Greg Franklin didn’t notice Montenegro was unconscious until separating the two fighters at the end of the fight. And instead of calling the bout off and declaring Haga the winner by submission, Franklin sent the bout to the scorecards.

Despite the fact that Montenegro was put to sleep, she was rewarded a unanimous decision victory, to much controversy. To add onto that, she was given a 10-9 in the third round by two of the three judges.

Renowned referee John McCarthy told MMAFighting.com after the bout that Haga should have won the fight.

Invicta FC 21 featured an interim featherweight title bout between Megan Anderson and Charmaine Tweet. Anderson, to kick 2017 off in style, viciously finished the Canadian by TKO in the second round.
