The date for Jonathan Koppenhaver’s trial for the assault and attempted murder of Christy Mack and Corey Thomas hasn’t changed, but a couple of plea deals have gone by the wayside. KSNV reports that Koppenhaver has passed on two separate deals opting instead to go ahead with a full trial.

In a hearing on Thursday, January 5th, Christy Mack was in court detailing her sexual relationship with Koppenhaver. She was questioned over rape role-play fantasies to determine whether testimony about the physical aspects of their past relationship would be allowable during the trial. Koppenhaver was also present.

As part of the hearing, the state offered Koppenhaver two different plea deals: 16 years to life, and 18-40 years. Koppenhaver turned both deals down. His attorney, Brandon Sua suggested that Mack’s testimony about their past relationship would see Koppenhaver acquitted in a jury trial.

“When the jury hears the testimony, when they fully understand the nature of the relationship, the request, the sexual rape fantasies, they will fully understand the true nature of the relationship. And with all the evidence I believe they will acquit Koppenhaver,” Sua said.

The trial is currently set for February 27th. Koppenhaver faces more than 30 charges stemming from his attacks on Mack and Thomas. Stay tuned to Bloody Elbow for more news and updates as the story evolves.
