Amanda Nunes was nothing short of spectacular at UFC 207.
The women’s bantamweight champion went up against former champ and WMMA superstar Ronda Rousey in the main event and put on her finest performance to date.
It took just under a minute for the heavy-handed Brazilian to get the TKO stoppage, as ‘The Lioness’ blasted Rousey with a series of strikes from the opening bell and forced referee Herb Dean to stop the bout at the 48-second mark of the first round.
UFC 207 marked Nunes first title defense and fifth straight win, as the 28-year-old beat the likes of Shayna Baszler, Sara McMann and Valentina Shevchenko on route to her title shot against WMMA pioneer Miesha Tate at UFC 200.
All but one of her last five wins have come via stoppage and Nunes says that the sky is the limit for her potential.
In fact, the nine-year MMA veteran thinks that she has what it takes to become a simultaneous two-division champion like Conor McGregor.
“Maybe I’ll go up to fight for the 145-pound belt. We’ll see. Maybe I’m going to have two belts like Conor McGregor,” Nunes told TMZ in a recent interview, per Damon Martin of FOX Sports.
McGregor, the promotion’s biggest star, added the lightweight strap to his resume when he TKO’d Eddie Alvarez in the second round at UFC 205. Shortly after the bout, though, ‘The Notorious’ was stripped of the featherweight title he won in 2015 and Jose Aldo was reinstated as the official champion.
The UFC announced the addition of a women’s featherweight division last month and revealed that Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie would square off for the inaugural 145 lbs title.
Nunes, who specializes in boxing and Brazilin Jiu Jitsu, plans to take a short break but is looking forward to competing for the featherweight belt.
“Honestly, I want to take a little time, enjoy it a little bit but I really look forward to this 145-pound belt,” she said.
Nunes is currently ranked as the No. 11 pound-for-pound fighter in the world and would surely catapult to the top 5 if she won a second championship.
