After earlier reports on Wednesday that Friday’s UFC 207 pay-per-view would mark the final show for longtime UFC commentator Mike Goldberg, UFC president Dana White confirmed in a media scrum that Goldberg is out after nearly 20 years with the promotion.

“That is true,” White said (via FOX Sports). “When these kind of things happen I’d rather not talk about it. If Mike wants to talk about it, ask Mike.”
While there was no further elaboration on who would immediately replace Goldberg while they search for a new leading voice, White did indicate that Goldberg’s permanent replacement would most likely be known before the middle of 2017.
White doesn’t announce who will replace Goldie as the #1 guy but says we’ll know by July “if everything goes my way.”

The 52-year-old Goldberg has been with the UFC since December 1997, working alongside the late Jeff Blatnick, before Joe Rogan became his full-time color analyst in November 2002. In addition to UFC commentary, Goldberg once did play-by-play work for the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings and the Minnesota Wild. Two years ago, he broadcast a regular season NFL game between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings, with results so disastrous that he was pulled from the 2nd game he was scheduled to do.
With Mike Goldberg’s time with the UFC drawing to a close, Jeremy Botter tweeted that previous rumors of veteran sports talk show host Jim Rome being chosen as the new lead voice of the UFC were true.
I’ve been able to confirm the rumors re: Jim Rome to UFC as Goldberg replacement. It’s not done yet, but talks are ongoing.

For now, we know that Friday night will be the last time you’ll hear the tandem of Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan together on a UFC card. You’ll still be hearing Rogan at least through next year, but in a reduced role, as he will only be doing PPV events based in North America.
