As UFC 207 fight week closes in, the verbal jabs between Dominick Cruz and Cody Garbrandt have gotten more personal. This time, Garbrandt’s girlfriend Danielle Pimsanguan has been included in the conversation.
In November, Pimsanguan joined in on the exchanges when she posted an Instagram photo of Cruz being choked out by Urijah Faber during their WEC fight in 2007. Not to be outdone, Cruz responded by advising Pimsanguan “not be involved in big boy stuff,” adding she should “have the tissue ready” when Garbrandt loses.
During an early December appearance on The MMA Hour, Cruz shed some light on said exchange. But at the same time, he wasted no time taking shots at Garbrandt as well.
“I don’t know how they are, how they do it, but I don’t want her involved in this stuff. And to me, it’s his job to tell her that stuff, to keep her out of it,” Cruz said (via MMA Fighting). “But clearly, she probably wears the pants in the relationship because he’s a big softy, as much as he tries to pretend he’s a tough guy. She went out there and tried to defend him, but really, I just don’t want her involved in it.
“She shouldn’t be involved in it, because I don’t want her to get embarrassed by comments from people on the outside. You don’t get involved in this beef. This is between me and Cody only. This has nothing to do with her, and I was very kind and gentle about letting her know that.”
Garbrandt did respond to Cruz’s statements during his own MMA Hour appearance last week. While he did say that Cruz “crossed the line” he was not worried about how his girlfriend handled the situation.
“Whatever, but I’m not really focused on it,” Garbrandt said. “Like I said, my girl can hold her own. I think he needs to be focused on more than going on my girlfriend’s page and talking crap.”
UFC 207 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday, December 30th. Cruz vs. Garbrandt will serve as the co-main event, while the women’s bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Ronda Rousey will headline the card.
