Bantamweights Dominick Cruz and Cody Garbrandt have been going at it for months now. Most recently during the UFC on FOX 22 broadcast over the weekend, the two men went on a back-and-forth trade of insults, which aired on national television.
Cruz has been known as one of the better talkers in the game today. While his words may not be as brash and controversial as that of Conor McGregor’s, Cruz’s retorts are usually witty and brutally straightforward in nature. But during that particular exchange, “The Dominator” admitted to have felt stupid, because of Garbrandt’s words.
“It’s like when you are a little kid and you literally repeat what the other person just said,” Cruz told FloCombat. “At a certain point I thought he was making us both look dumb because he was so bad at speaking. I would say something and he would just start yelling loud noises at me because he didn’t want me to get my thought out.”
Garbrandt would be another fighter on the Team Alpha Male roster to be matched up against Cruz. Naturally, it is nothing new for the champion, even the manner of which they talk trash against him.
“It actually reminds me of [Urijah] Faber because that was Faber’s tactic,” Cruz continued. “Anytime we had a press conference or a media scrum where we were supposed to exchange points, every time I would start talking he would just start screaming nonsense over the top so I couldn’t even say what I wanted to say.
“What you get is me trying to talk and these other people screaming absurd things over top of me and it kills the interview. It’s a spineless, gutless and sad approach that’s very weak.”
Cruz and Garbrandt will co-headline UFC 207 on December 30th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
