Donald Cerrone and Matt Brown went toe-to-toe in the UFC 206 co-main event in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with Cerrone aiming for a 4-0 record at welterweight. Brown was trying to avoid a 5th loss in his last 6 fights. Unfortunately for “The Immortal,” a solid showing ended in a crashing defeat courtesy of a huge Donald Cerrone head kick.
Brown was rocked with an early head kick by Cerrone, but he was still throwing back and had his wits about him. There was a nice 1-2 landed by Brown. Cerrone stayed patient and mixed up his strikes very well, throwing leg kicks and left hooks upstairs. Another left high kick stunned Brown, but didn’t drop him. Brown threw and scored with a 1-2 and a left hook to the body. Brown slipped on a high kick of his own and dropped to his back. He slapped on a triangle choke, which looked tight, but Cerrone survived that and the ensuing armbar attempt, and got back to his feet. It was a good start for Cerrone in the 1st, but Brown finished strongly.
The 2nd round saw Brown drop Cerrone with a big right hand and then swarm on him. He threw several blows to the head but couldn’t put Cowboy away. Cerrone then dropped Brown with a high kick. A sharp right hand by Cerrone rocked Brown and sent him retreating. Cerrone continued to work his jab in a pulsating encounter. Brown was bleeding around both eyes. Another round in the books, another hard one to score.
Brown and Cerrone hugged each other to start the 3rd round. Matt took Cerrone down for all of a second before he went back up. Cerrone, who had been landing the head kick with regularity all night, smacked Brown with a head kick once more and immediately rendered him unconscious. Brown had ducked his head on this occasion, and it was a costly duck.
