In the main event of UFC 205, the UFC’s historical first ever show at Madison Square Garden in New York City, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor made history with a surgical performance. He destroyed Eddie Alvarez to become the UFC’s first ever simultaneous two-division champion. It was not even a contest.

Round 1 started with an early leg kick by Alvarez. Another one that made Conor slip. A third inside leg kick by the champion. McGregor with a front kick to the body. A very pro-McGregor crowd populated Madison Square Garden. A big left hand dropped Alvarez in a flash and he looked seriously hurt but sprung back up in ridiculously quick time. Alvarez tried to clinch and McGregor shook him off. McGregor with a head kick. Another left hand drilled Alvarez and down he went. This time McGregor followed him to the ground. Hard shots on the mat by the featherweight champion. Alvarez back to his feet but in a deep hole having been dropped multiple times. Stuffed takedown and then a knee to the body by McGregor. One minute left in the opening round controlled by McGregor. Good right hand by Alvarez. Blocked kick thrown by Alvarez, who then landed a punch to the body.

They traded body kicks to open up round 2. Alvarez had severe marking on his left eye. Another left hand beautifully timed and it stung the lightweight champ. Another stuffed takedown attempt. Conor toyed with Alvarez and put his hands behind his back and flicked the right hand. Alvarez pushed forward and landed a pair of good right hands but then ate a hard counter left hand that sent him stumbling to the fence. He went for a takedown against the cage, hoping to stem McGregor’s brutal assault of left hands. Knee to the body by McGregor as he exited from Alvarez’s grasp. Outrageous four-punch combination by Alvarez decked him for a 3rd time and that put an end to the beating. Conor McGregor officially became a two-division champion.

Official result: Conor McGregor def. Eddie Alvarez via TKO (punches) at 3:04 of round 2 to become the new UFC lightweight champion
