Robert Guerrero: Floyd Mayweather would be ‘deadlier’ in MMA because of smaller gloves

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still considered to be the best boxer of his era. But when the conversation of him possibly fighting Conor McGregor under MMA rules was brought to the table, many have expectedly predicted that he does not stand a chance.

Former boxing world champion Robert Guerrero, however, begs to disagree. “The Ghost” has had the opportunity to share the ring with Mayweather in 2013, winning only three out of the 12 rounds. And with Mayweather’s reputation of having fragile hands and breaking them after some fights, Guerrero believes the standard 4 oz. gloves in MMA could actually be an advantage.

“I don’t think Floyd would go for something like that, especially (with) knees and elbows,” Guerrero told Fight Hype. “Maybe the smaller gloves. That’ll make Floyd even deadlier and more quick.”

“I think McGregor’s nowhere near Floyd’s speed. Put him in some small gloves, it’s gonna be beyond.”

UFC president Dana White teased about the possibility of pitting Mayweather and McGregor against each other, but stipulated that kicks, punches and elbows should be involved.
