A pivotal featherweight matchup between top contenders Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis has been added to the UFC’s return to Toronto, UFC 206. TSN announced the news Tuesday.
Holloway (16-3) most recently defeated top-five featherweight Ricardo Lamas at UFC 199 in June. “Blessed,” who has been campaigning for a title shot as of late, is currently riding a nine-fight winning streak, which includes wins over Jeremy Stephens, Charles Oliveira and Cub Swanson.
An unexpected three-fight skid for Pettis (19-5) forced the former UFC lightweight champion to change things up, which includes recent training at Jackson-Wink MMA and a drop down to 145 pounds. In his featherweight debut this past summer, “Showtime” defeated the aforementioned Oliveira via third-round submission. Pettis lost the 155-pound belt to Rafael dos Anjos in early 2015.
Holloway vs. Pettis is expected to be UFC 206’s co-main event.
UFC 206 takes place live from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Dec. 10. In the evening’s main event, Daniel Cormier puts his light heavyweight belt on the line for the second time in a rematch with Anthony Johnson.
