Matt Brown reveals having suicidal thoughts after loss: ‘I probably felt like Ronda Rousey’

UFC welterweight Matt Brown is currently on a two-fight losing streak, with the most recent one ending via first round TKO against Jake Ellenberger. Prior to that, he lost via a late rear-naked choke submission against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace Demian Maia.

During his appearance on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour”, Brown revealed that his fight with Ellenberger was his first time to be dropped with a shot to the head. After that stoppage, “The Immortal” had apparently been so demoralized, that the thought of ending his own life actually entered his mind.

“I dealt with it really tough. It was a really tough one. I probably felt like Ronda Rousey. I wanted to kill myself, which is after every loss, you know,” Brown said. “We’re all the same.”

“But, you know what? I have three kids and I had to come home and be a role model to them. I had to get up the next morning and make breakfast, and show them that no matter how many times you get taken down, you get your ass up and do it again.”

Brown is known to be one of the few fighters today who would stand and bang, and take one shot to give one. But having a concussion during the past year made him realize the level of competition he is currently facing, and how the MMA game has changed through the years.

“I had a concussion last year for the first time in my life, and I tell you, man, it’s no fun. I had a serious concussion. I wasn’t finishing sentences to my kids sometimes — I actually fell over, which is when my wife made me go to the doctor. I literally got up and fell down.”

“Things like that happen (and you begin to realize) man, this sport is real. This ain’t just fun and games and a paycheck anymore.”

Brown is currently slated to face Tarec Saffiedine at UFC 207 on December 30th.
