During his post-fight media obligations at UFC 202, Nate Diaz was seen puffing out of a vape pen. During his media scrum, he later disclosed that it was cannabidiol (CBD) oil.

“It’s CBD. It helps with the healing process and inflammation, stuff like that. So you want to get these for before and after the fights, training. It’ll make your life a better place,” Diaz explained.

Cannabidiol is the non-psychoactive component in cannabis that is used for its medical purposes to treat various ailments such as seizures, and is consumed in oil form. As explained by Diaz, he was using it to alleviate himself from the aches and pains after a five-round fight, like the one he had with Conor McGregor that night.

Diaz’s tests did come out clean, which only merited him a public warning from USADA.

“Based on these circumstances, USADA determined that a public warning was an appropriate response to Diaz’s use of a specified substance during the in-competition period,” USADA’s statement reads (via MMA Fighting).
