UFC 205 video: Conor McGregor makes Eddie Alvarez feel ‘unthreatened’ at staredown

Conor McGregor has made it a habit to get inside his opponent’s heads. Or at least he had up until he ran into Nate Diaz. After a pair of bouts against the younger Diaz brother in which McGregor’s outside the cage attitude was met head on and largely seemed to play no part of the in cage dynamic, is it worth wondering whether McGregor has lost some of the knack for pre-fight mind games?

Maybe that’s an overstatement, but lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez is making it as clear as possible that Conor McGregor isn’t getting in his head. Speaking to Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, Alvarez talked about his recent staredown with the featherweight champion:

“Usually when square off with a man, my heart rate goes up, I feel something,” Alvarez said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “I never felt so unthreatened by a human being as when I was up on a stage with him. That’s the God’s honest truth. I’ve never felt so unthreatened.”

You can check out the full interview with Alvarez below:

Alvarez and McGregor will meet in the main event of UFC 205 in a superfight pitting the lightweight champion against the featherweight title holder. The card is also expected to see title fights between welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and challenger Stephen Thompson, along with a strawweight title defense for Joanna Jedrzejczyk against Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
