One of the more incredible moments in the outrageously entertaining UFC 205 press conference involved Conor McGregor and Jeremy Stephens. Yes, you read that right. When a media member asked McGregor who would give him the hardest fight among the fighters present on stage (of which the complete list included Eddie Alvarez, Donald Cerrone, Kelvin Gastelum, Chris Weidman, Yoel Romero, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Frankie Edgar, and Jeremy Stephens), “Lil’ Heathen” sprung into action.
Nate Diaz reacts to Alvarez-McGregor announcement
Nate Diaz sounded off on the UFC 205 main event announcement in typical fashion.
“Right here,” Stephens said. “Right here, the hardest hitting 145-pounder. The real hardest hitting 145er, right here. This guy TKOs people. When I knock people out, they don’t f*cking move!”
“Who the f**k is that guy?” McGregor responded. “Who the f**k is that?”
“You damn well know who I am,” said Stephens.
“Who the f**k is that?” McGregor laughed and repeated again. “Oh my god. I don’t know, when I—“
At this point, Stephens interrupted by calling him a leprechaun.
“Oh good one!” McGregor said. “When I take [Alvarez’s] belt, I’m looking around and I don’t know what anyone else has for me right now. I might have to jump up and f*ckin’ drag Floyd Mayweather out back and see what the f**k he’s at again.”
Aaaaaand scene. You can watch the footage at the top of the page, courtesy of MMA Fighting.
Stephens isn’t going to be fighting McGregor on November 12th, but he will get a big opportunity to shoot up the 145 ranks, as he’s set to face Frankie Edgar on this stacked debut show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Current featherweight champion McGregor will be heading up to lightweight to fight reigning champion Eddie Alvarez, in the night’s main event.
